AI assistants

Connect an assistant to the Mac that holds your Hansard archive. No account, GitHub sign-in, or connection code is needed.

App
Settings → AI assistants
CLI
hansard peers hosted

Keep this address private. Anyone who has it can ask your Mac to connect.

  1. In Settings → AI assistants, copy your address into the assistant’s custom connector.
  2. Find the two-digit number in the assistant’s sign-in window.
  3. When Hansard shows “ChatGPT wants to connect”, tap that number on your Mac.

The name changes to match the assistant. Every assistant that uses the address still needs your approval on this Mac. If the numbers do not match, nothing connects. Start again from the assistant. If you did not start the request, choose Don’t allow.

An older server can show Allow instead of number choices.

Each connected assistant has its own row in Settings → AI assistants.

Use History comes from to choose projects. Agent messaging must also be on for the assistant to message your agents.

The Runs menu offers Ask every time, Ask for sessions that skip permission prompts, Trust, and Off. Trust lets that assistant start runs without another Hansard approval. Unknown session permission settings still require approval under the second choice.

A run request shows who asked, which agent will run, its project, and the brief. Click Start run to approve it. If the request also reaches your phone or Slack, the first answer counts.

Remove disconnects one assistant. Reset address disconnects every assistant and gives this Mac a new address. Connect each assistant again with that address.

Advanced holds each assistant’s budgets and recent call metadata. It also holds the server address for self-hosters. The default is https://mcp.hansard.dev. Changing the server disconnects every assistant.

Hansard contacts the server only after you request your address. After that, the link runs while an assistant is connected or you viewed the address within the last hour. Keep Hansard running on this Mac to answer requests.

From your terminal, hansard peers hosted address shows the address. hansard peers hosted requests lists requests. Approve one with hansard peers hosted approve <request-id> <number>, using the number from the sign-in window. Deny it with hansard peers hosted deny <request-id>. Approval commands refuse inside agent sessions. Omit the number only for an older server’s plain Allow request.
