# Hansard > Hansard is a local-first memory layer for AI coding agents. It archives conversations and memory files from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, and dozens of other coding agents, plus ChatGPT, Claude.ai, and Gemini exports, into one searchable archive on your computer. Your agents can search and cite that history through its MCP server. - Install the CLI with `npm install -g hansard` (Node.js 20 or newer), or download the desktop app for macOS and Windows. - Free to use under the MIT license. Needs no account; the archive stays in `~/.hansard` on your computer. - Importing, search, Stats, memories, and the app run on your computer. Work classification, on by default, sends a digest of each finished conversation to the Claude or Codex CLI you are signed in to; Personal Sync, Teams, Slack, and Deep Recall send data only when you use them. The page What leaves your machine lists every case. ## What Hansard does - Archive and back up AI coding agent conversation history from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity, Aider, Cline, OpenCode, Devin, and dozens more - Import ChatGPT, Claude.ai, and Gemini data exports into the same archive - Search every past agent conversation by text, project, harness, model, tool, shell command, edited file, or git commit - Agent memory management: back up, version, search, and edit CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, Codex memories, and other agent memory files - Recall for coding agents: an MCP server and skills that let Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other agents search past conversations and memories - Deep Recall: answers to broad questions about your history, built from several searches with session citations - Token usage, estimated cost, model, and tool statistics across every coding agent - Continue a conversation in another harness or model, and fork or resume archived sessions - Messaging and helper agents between live coding agent sessions, with project coordinators - A knowledge graph of projects and conversations connected by files, commits, and topics - Personal Sync across your computers, Teams sharing by repository, and Slack recaps - A desktop app for macOS and Windows, a browser viewer, and a CLI that share one archive ## Questions and the pages that answer them - [How do I search my past Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor conversations?](https://www.hansard.dev/guides/search.md): Hansard imports the history of every coding agent on your computer into one archive and searches all of it at once. - [Which agent conversation wrote this line of code?](https://www.hansard.dev/guides/search.md): Run `hansard why :`, such as `hansard why src/server/auth.ts:120`. - [How do I manage memory files like CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md across agents?](https://www.hansard.dev/guides/memories.md): Hansard backs up the memory and instruction files your agents keep, such as `CLAUDE.md`, `AGENTS.md`, `GEMINI.md`, Codex memories, and Cursor memories and user rules. - [How do I give my coding agent memory of earlier conversations?](https://www.hansard.dev/guides/agent-integrations.md): Install recall, which connects the agent to Hansard's MCP server. - [How do I keep Claude Code from deleting my conversation history?](https://www.hansard.dev/imports/watcher.md): Claude Code deletes CLI transcripts older than 30 days by default, controlled by `cleanupPeriodDays`. - [How do I back up or export my coding agent chat history?](https://www.hansard.dev/guides/browse-conversations.md): The archive is a backup: it keeps each conversation as a readable transcript plus a copy of every original file the harness wrote. - [How do I import my ChatGPT, Claude.ai, and Gemini conversations?](https://www.hansard.dev/imports/web-exports.md): Request a data export from the service, then import the file it sends you. - [How do I track token usage and cost across Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor?](https://www.hansard.dev/guides/stats.md): **Stats** totals conversations, messages, tokens, and estimated spend at API prices across every harness and model, for any time range. - [How do I continue a Claude Code conversation in Codex or another agent?](https://www.hansard.dev/guides/continue.md): Open the conversation in **Sessions**, choose **Continue in…**, and pick an installed harness. - [Can coding agents in the same project message each other?](https://www.hansard.dev/guides/session-messaging.md): Yes.
