# Instinct

> Save only your configured Instinct conversation from macOS Messages.

Hansard reads the one-to-one conversation with your Instinct number in macOS
Messages. Each user has a different number. Capture stays off until you enter
yours under **Instinct number** in **Settings → Imports → Agents** and select
**Save number**.

You can also configure it from the CLI. Replace the synthetic example with
your number, including its country code:

```sh
hansard config set imports.instinctHandle "+1 555 0101"
hansard import --source instinct --since all
```

If source selection is Custom, enable Instinct in the Agents list. The watcher
checks the configured conversation on its polling cadence. To stop future
capture, clear **Instinct number** and select **Save number**, or run
`hansard config unset imports.instinctHandle`.
Previously archived history stays available.

The reader captures text, message times, reactions, observed edits and unsends,
reply references, and available attachments. One number remains one continuous
Hansard conversation. Models, internal tools, measured tokens, and billing
information are unavailable in Messages.

Only selected rows and selected attachments enter the archive. Hansard never
archives the Messages database, other chats, or group conversations. Offline
rebuild uses the preserved selection. Attachments larger than 16 MiB, missing
files, and iCloud-offloaded files retain a descriptor with an explicit reason.
Hansard does not download offloaded files.

Capture from the Messages store on a Mac has not been verified yet. Do not
grant Full Disk Access to your terminal for it.

WhatsApp is a separate follow-up route. This importer does not read WhatsApp.
